I find it difficult to decide if my thoughts were focusing on stoicism, optimism, or pessimism. Certainly I consider the scene with the man who stole the cart a pivotal moment in the book.
How far can we go in “not taking chances”?
What is the point of carrying on in hopeless situations?
We are fragile, and our word is fragile. Will it survive?
