I have to agree. Good story, style that was without flaws ("flawless" is high praise, but "without flaws" means she knows what she's doing), and enjoyable characters.

I can't say that any book I've read has involved the circus much--except maybe as a kid. I imagine the Hardy Boys or Boxcar Children made it there now and again.

Thanks for dropping in!

Well, that's pretty brief. But on the other hand, I realize I was extremely brief in my posting, too.

I was trying to say that there could have been more in the novella. It was a good material for a full blown book. Or maybe I wish it was just painted with a bit more language. It seemed to me everything was right on target, just like in a box match where every punch is an expensive effort, and you just cannot afford to throw too many of them--just the right number to get the winning. In that sense I did not really see a lot left for me to think about--just every character was quite finished, every story told in full.

:) I read it some 2 years ago. As a matter of fact, that was my first Picoult, and it did not make a special impression on me. It was an OK read (alright, better than that, I admit), but not as spectacular as "Second Glance" or "The Pact". My wife read "The Tenth Circle" a couple of weeks ago, and she said herself that it was not the best--and believe me, I never ever try to influence her opinion about books.

BUT: thanks for dropping in with a recommendation. I appreciate it!!! And I agree, it is definitely worth recommending to Picoult fans.

[...] Ambush at Fort Bragg This work could have been developed into a longer novel. Somehow I felt it was abridged, despite the narrator assuring me that the reading was “full length, unabridged.” It was a novella I would compare to a question, not full asked. What I like most is the question finished, right up to the question mark, with no answers (see my thoughts about The Second Glance).
